Frankie Marcello’s brings back Plantation Salad

A relatively new-to-the-scene Baton Rouge restaurant has brought back a popular menu item from the former tenant of its building. The Plantation Salad, a specialty salad featuring tasty honey mustard dressing that was served at Calendar’s, is now on the menu at Frankie Marcello’s.

The Italian, Creole and seafood restaurant is in the former location of Calendar’s on the corner of Perkins Road and Essen Lane in the Bois De Chene Shopping Center. Owner Frankie Marcello says after hearing guests ask about the salad, he contacted former Calendar’s owner Don Davis to share the recipe with the new restaurant.

“[Davis] was gracious enough to give us the recipe as long as we promised not to share the recipe for the honey mustard dressing with anyone, since that is a big part of what makes the salad special,” Marcello says.

The salad comes with grilled or fried chicken piled on a bed of fresh greens with sliced Portobello mushrooms, tomatoes, Monterey jack cheese, thin-sliced bacon, hard-boiled eggs and croutons. The item is available for dinner for $14.95.
