Sip with a purpose
From Oct. 1 through March 27, stop by any Louisiana Sonic location to order the Louisiana Blue Pelican Sonic Slush, a drink originally created by Lt. Governor Billy Nungesser in collaboration with carhops in the Amite Sonic kitchen. The drink blends blue coconut flavor and sweet cream and will help raise awareness for Keep Louisiana Beautiful’s Love Our Waterways project.
Local breakfast spot to close doors in October
Keith Lee-approved breakfast spot Fork N Spoon is closing. At the end of August, the restaurant’s owner Kristen Abshire made a post on the eatery’s account to share the news. She says there was no singular event that led to the decision and that owning a business is “intense.” Since then, Fork N Spoon has begun to wind down operations. But fans of the spot can still get their fill as Fork N Spoon will be open normal hours through Oct. 3. After that date, the restaurant will be open weekends only until closing.
Celebrate Dolly Day with local menu specials

Today, Sept. 25, also known as 9-2-5, is being celebrated as Dolly Day to honor the life and legacy of country music singer and philanthropist Dolly Parton. To honor the late star’s holiday, local shops and bakeries are getting in on the fun with Dolly-inspired specials. CounterspaceBR is stocking banana pudding in its grab-and-go fridge, while The Vintage has three tribute cocktails. City Roots Coffee Bar has a Southern Sparkle lemonade and the Imagination Latte on the menu today, with proceeds going toward Dolly Diamonds, a local partner program for Parton’s Imagination Library.
And on Sept. 29, Community Coffee is launching its Dolly Parton line, Cup of Ambition, which was created with the star.
