Feliciana powwow offers healing music, dance
Should you wake up Saturday morning with a migraine, here’s your best medicine: the very first Felicianas Native American Powwow. Just a half hour drive north to sunny Jackson, the powwow features the healing sound of drumming and inter-tribal dancing, comfort food such as Indian fried bread and several hand-building crafts such as bows and arrows. Hosted by the educational nonprofit Sound Psychology, the powwow welcomes several tribes, from Mohawks and Apaches to Coushattas and Cherokees. The all-day family event is $5 for adults, $3 for children. No smoking, no alcohol, no pets and no ice chests. Doors open at 10 a.m. at 3406 College St., north of Hwy. 10. For details contact organizer Dr. Susan Dardard at (225) 635-4555.
