Fast Break: Couyon’s pulled pork sandwich

Couyon’s Baton Rouge location may be hard to find for the untrained eye. Attached to a small gas station on Burbank Drive near Gardere Lane, this barbecue joint serves up some of the best pulled pork in town. Served on a fresh sesame bun, a fourth of a pound of tender and juicy pork is topped with a sweet and spicy barbecue sauce, with pickles and onions on the side for those so inclined. It’s hard to choose from all the home-style sides, but the yellow potato salad is chunky perfection. Wash it down with an ice-cold Barq’s root beer from the bottle, all for under $10. Couyon’s also has a location in Port Allen, but the Baton Rouge spot features a drive-thru window for those with no more than 10 minutes to spare.
