Du Jour: Giving Tree Coffee

The intersection between food and charity has always been strong in Louisiana — think bake sales and jambalaya fundraisers. Local software professional Andres Calderon took the practice to a new level a few years ago when he created Giving Tree Coffee, a specialty coffee company whose proceeds benefit homeless children in his native El Salvador. He didn’t know much about coffee production, so he met growers in El Salvador, networked with roasters in New Orleans and tasted cup after cup.
