Du Jour: George Gugich, Dempsey’s

This weekend’s Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure in Baton Rouge has been on the minds of those personally touched by breast cancer, including lots of civic-minded restaurateurs. Dempsey’s Po’boys owner George Gugich is one. Each year, he sponsors a race team and opens for brunch on the Sundays leading up to the race to raise money and awareness for breast cancer. It’s a way he can toast his sister, Mary, a breast cancer survivor, and the thousands of others who face down the disease annually. “When you have a family member you know and love and care about, you want to do something. You want to help,” says Gugich. Click here to read the whole story. To read previous Du Jour features on local chefs and other culinary experts, click here.?
