Du Jour: Chef Don Bergeron

Chef Don Bergeron’s multi-focus catering company includes a popular take-away storefront for busy families, a service that launched earlier than planned thanks to a Hurricane Gustav light malfunction. The longtime chef/caterer was readying his new Mid-City Market for a late September launch when Gustav hit Labor Day weekend.  Bergeron was one of a handful of local caterers contracted to feed recovery workers, and while he was working in the soon-to-open shop, a power surge illuminated his sign, drawing dozens of neighborhood customers eager for something hot and homey. “We ended up feeing about a hundred people that day,” he says. “And the market opened.” For more on Chef Don and the Mid-City Market, click here. –Maggie Heyn RichardsonTo read previous Du Jour features on local chefs and other culinary experts, click here.
