Down on the corner, out in the street

You know those game-day shirts you see students wearing in Tiger Stadium? The ones with the ’roided out cartoon tiger beating up and bloodying our opponent’s mascot? Yeah, those don’t exist at Highland & State, a new LSU-licensed T-shirt line launched by local designer Brad Jensen.

One glance reveals how Highland & State goes beyond what you’d find in the average fan store. These shirts are dedicated to showcasing that homegrown LSU pride with—finally—some fresh and interesting designs. Think vintage-looking tees, in-your-face images, and even some shout outs to our beloved Golden Band from Tigerland. In other words, you can show that team spirit without looking like you’re sponsored by Nike.

“People are used to seeing the same old ideas,” Jensen explains. “I saw a need in the market for people who are interested in art and design but still love to see the Tigers play.”

Jensen doesn’t look like the typical LSU fan, so he says it is easy for him to relate to others who want to sport their purple and gold, but don’t want to look like they work at Foot Locker. “I’m trying to elevate the design community around me and show people that there’s an artistic way of doing things,” says the 29-year-old.

Jensen says it is all about the culture and pride we have down here in South Louisiana, and any LSU student, alumnus or just plain old fan can attest to that. Jensen is an LSU alumnus and a Louisiana native, and so are his shirts. All are printed right here in the state.

Look for Highland & State’s line of men’s, women’s, youth and infant shirts at Tiger District, and Lady Tiger Depot. Some even more fashion-forward designs are sold exclusively at boutiques like Vertigo, Stella, Loft 3H and Aristocracy. highlandandstate.com
