Don’t be a ‘Sucker’
There are those who loved the lush, stylized action of Zack Snyder’s 300 and Watchmen, and then there are those who don’t like comic books. There’s little in between, and before Snyder helms next year’s Superman movie, he hopes to land a Sucker Punch this Friday. Blending orphan mythology and a traditional hero’s journey with shoot-em-up action sequences, murderous robots, high-flying samurai and fire-breathing dragons, Sucker Punch is a whiz-bang adventure film for the video game brain. Emily Browning stars as Baby Doll, a young woman locked away in an asylum by her evil step-father. As she learns to use her imagination to escape the pain of her entrapment, she envisions a grand escape with the help of her fellow asylum dwellers who transform into a team of man-chewing mercenaries on a mission to escape. Abbie Cornish, Jamie Chung, Scott Glenn, Jon Hamm, Vanessa Hudgens and Jena Malone co-star. Rated R. (Photo courtesy Clay Enos)
