DJ Soul Sister – DJ on New Orleans

“Since I live here in my native New Orleans, I get to live the dream everyday. I love every minute and never take it for granted. It’s not perfect, but it’s home, and there is nowhere like it.

With that said, breakfast would happen at the Marigny location of the Ruby Slipper Cafe, and lunch at the Hi Hat Cafe on Freret Street.

Dinner would be at either Mondo or Saucy’s BBQ.

If I wanted to get really fancy with dinner, I’d take it to either Rue 127, Apolline, Emeril’s Delmonico or Muriel’s in Jackson Square.

Live music is a definite, depending on the night of the week. Right now, my thing is Jon Cleary and the Absolute Monster Gentlemen featuring Nigel Hall on Monday nights at Maple Leaf, the Thursday Night Swingin’ local modern jazz series at Prime Example and Sundays at the Howlin’ Wolf Den with the Hot 8 Brass Band.

My own Saturday night ‘Hustle’ party at Hi-Ho Lounge is a given.

I’d sneak in a lap or two at Audubon Park and then additional workouts at Anytime Fitness on Freret and X-Trainers studio. I gotta work it out.

I’m currently obsessed with City Park’s new mini golf course, City Putt, so I would stop there and play, too.

What would I do the rest of the day? Buy lots of vinyl records at Domino Sound Record Shack, Louisiana Music Factory, Jim Russell Rare Records, and Peaches Records, then finish it off with a Cosmo and some modern jazz at the Davenport Lounge inside the Ritz Carlton, Irvin Mayfield’s Jazz Playhouse, or my favorite new room for live music in the city: The Little Gem Saloon.

I would do it all solo and have lots of fun, but would welcome any guests or participants—except for the record shopping. That’s my ‘me time.'”
