Dish up fish for Lent
With Mardi Gras behind us, it’s time for Baton Rouge restaurants to start rolling out the Friday fish dishes for Lent. But with the city’s vast supply of seafood and talented chefs, forgoing meat once a week is more indulgence than penance. We sent out a Facebook call to local restaurants to provide us a list of their palate-pleasing pescetarian provisions for the Lenten season. Here’s what they gave us: Sullivan’s: Sullivan’s Steakhouse is offering up a special barbecue shrimp over horseradish mashed potatoes, drizzled in Abita Amber sauce. sullivanssteakhouse.com Ruffino’s: Chef Peter Sclafani serves up a tasty fish dish or three on Fridays during Lent, improvising a new, exciting special every week. ruffinosrestaurant.com Le Creole: With their emphasis on fresh Gulf seafood, Le Creole is always Lent-friendly, but their $9.99 lunch specials are pleasing to the wallet and the stomach at this time of year. lecreolebr.com Stroubes: Seafood gumbo, a mixed seafood grill and much more are on offer at Stroubes, options even non-adherents will want to sample. stroubes.com Monjunis: Monjuni’s Italian Restaurant is offering their delicious fried crab cakes, shrimp fettuccini, shrimp pesto and much more every Friday. monjunis.com
