Cupcakes come to LSU area

Cupcake bakeries have been one of the “it” entrepreneurial trends of the last few years, and Baton Rouge has benefited with the addition of businesses like Sweet Wishes, Cupcakes n’ Cream and Cupcake Couture. Now, a new bakery called Frosted Cupcakes has popped up to service the LSU area, dishing up tasty gourmet cupcakes in a variety of flavors. Co-owned and operated by LSU alumni Andi Carroll and Kyle Anderman, the bakery is a haven for connoisseurs of the mini frosted cakes. With flavors ranging from wedding cake to lemon zest, there’s something on the menu for every sweet tooth. Some cupcakes even hold a sweet treat inside: For instance, “peanut butter cup” cupcakes contain a filling of sweet peanut butter, and cookie dough cupcakes have a little pocket of cookie dough. The bakery is also the only place in town where you can still score some Dippin’ Dots—the frozen flecks of ice cream that were all the rage some years back. There are even “Dippin’ Dots Cupcakes”—vanilla or chocolate cupcakes served with a chilly center of Dippin’ Dots in the flavor of your choice, then topped with icing and even more Dots sprinkled on top. Carroll and Anderman admit they had no experience with running a small business, let alone a bakery, but both were interested in starting an enterprise together, and Carroll had the home-baking skills to give them a start. Now the pair churn out hundreds of moist, tasty cupcakes daily in constantly rotating flavors. The entrepreneurs have got their audience in mind, too. With their shop on the corner of Nicholson and West Lee Drive, just outside of LSU, they keep their doors open late and offer Wi-Fi and comfy chairs for students and other night owls looking for a sugar fix, coffee, and a place to unwind after a night out. “We really want this to be a place where people feel free to come in and stay awhile,” says Carroll.
