Consider a run for local office today

Inspired to run for Metro Council or mayor? Qualifying ends at 5 p.m. today at the 19th Judicial District Courthouse, 222 St. Louis Street. Candidates must have been a resident of East Baton Rouge, in their respective district if running for Metro Council, for at least one year.

It’ll cost you just to qualify, however. Signing up for the mayoral race costs $375, plus $187.50 to the republican or democratic state central committees, and another $187.50 to the Parish Executive Committee in East Baton Rouge. The extra fees do not apply to independents and third-party candidates such as libertarians and greens.

Qualifying to run for Metro Council is $115, plus and extra $57.50 to the republican or democratic SCCs, and another $57.50 to the PEC. The extra fees do not apply to independents and third-party candidates.

Voting is Oct. 4, with a Nov. 4 run-off.
