Cole’s Feb. 28 TEDxLSU 2015 talk will focus on the possibilities we unveil when we set ourselves to the task of finding connections between multiple passions, and how these connections can push us to innovate in both our personal and professional lives.
I recently connected with Cole to learn a little more about his life and interests. Here are the highlights of our conversation.
You talk a lot about connecting things that don’t obviously relate. Do you have a favorite food combo that others might not automatically appreciate?
I actually really enjoy black pudding. I had the pleasure of going to Scotland once, and didn’t know that I was eating black pudding until after I had done so. Delicious.
If X is the thing that drives you, that connects you, that inspires you, what is your X?
Curiosity. I love being bad at things because it means I’ve got something new to learn.
Now that you live in New Orleans, what is one thing about Baton Rouge you miss?
On the flip side of that question: If you were to make a change right now in Baton Rouge, what would it be?
I-10 East where it goes down to one lane.
What do you do when you unplug?
Sports: golf, surf, snowboard, soccer, or really anything that is physically and mentally challenging.
Before you get up to do your TED talk how are you going to pump yourself up?
I will actually be trying to calm down, more than pump up, but either way I’ll be listening to music.
Which TEDxLSU talk do you most want to go to this year?
I’m looking forward to Owen Carmichael’s talk. I’m a big fan of Radiolab and similar brainy shows, this seems like a talk that is going to be right up my alley.
Here’s a time machine: What are you going to do with it?
Never come home! I would be back and forth between the Jurassic period and the year 3015 and everywhere in between. I’m not sure whether I’d be more excited to see Renaissance Italy or what the future holds.
If you could interview another 2015 TEDxLSU speaker, what would you ask?
I would ask John Besh, what’s the worst thing he’s ever cooked, and what led to it being so bad?
