City of Men more light-hearted but worthy; DVD out now
Paulo Morelli’s long-awaited sort-of sequel to 2002’s brilliant City of God is set among the same Brazilian slums as its predecessor, and is another remarkable coming-of-age tale of survival against all odds. Though slightly more light-hearted, this follow-up is a worthy companion to the original’s hard-edged gangster snapshot. Rated R.
