Cheers: The Gimlet
Some claim it was named after a drilling tool, calling to mind it’s “penetrative” effect on the drinker. Others claim it was named for British Navy Surgeon General Sir Thomas Gimlette, who allegedly introduced it to sailors as a scurvy preventative. (There’s an appetizing thought!) Whatever the drink’s origins, when it comes to classic taste, it doesn’t get a whole lot simpler than a gimlet, a sweet and sour mix of gin and lime juice. A popular twist (no pun intended) on this puckery palate-pleaser is substituting vodka for gin, giving it a slightly smoother taste. Duvic’s serves a delectable version of this sweet, chilled cocktail, but the recipe is simple enough to whip up at home on a humid afternoon.
1 oz. lime juice1 tsp. powdered sugar1˝ oz. vodka
Shake ingredients with ice, then strain and pour into a cocktail glass. Garnish with slice or twist of lime. Enjoy!
