Cheers: Prosecco

If you’re looking for a more affordable alternative to champagne for New Year’s Eve without sacrificing panache, Prosecco—an Italian sparkling wine—might be the way to go. Lightly-flavored, it’s often described as having a fruitier zing than champagne; a little sweeter, a little less sharp on the tongue. Grown from Prosecco grapes in the north of Italy, it makes a fabulous toasting substitute if there’s no champagne to be had. A higher-end bottle of Prosecco will usually run between $15-$20, like the Nino Franco “Rustico” pictured here. (Photo by David Gallent)
