Cheers: Abita SOS
The Abita Brewing Company is joining in the fight to save Louisiana’s precious coastline with its new “charitable pilsner,” Abita SOS. For each bottle sold, 75 cents will be donated to the new Abita SOS fund, which will assist with the restoration of the environment and industries affected by the oil spill. Abita began brewing the new flavor several weeks ago and is now waiting for the aging process to finish before it launches in mid-July. The brew is an unfiltered Weizen Pils made with pilsner and wheat malts. According to Abita, it has a “sweet malt flavor and a pleasant bitterness and aroma.” With Abita’s charitable successes in the brew room in the past—including their ever-popular Restoration Pale Ale—cracking open a bottle for the coast will be no great sacrifice.
