Celebrate Red Star’s first birthday

A downtown favorite is celebrating its first year back in business. Red Star, the downtown staple at 222 Laurel St., is hosting a party commemorating its reopening one year ago. Festivities start at 7 p.m. Saturday with complimentary jambalaya and beer. The bar will also host an opening reception for its new featured artist, Darby Clarke. Stick around afterward for Mohawk Mike’s karaoke event at 10 p.m. Red Star closed in 2012 after more than 10 years in business. The bar reopened last year as a non-smoking venue with new ownership, hosting weekly events such as hipster bingo, free tacos on Sundays and more.
