Celebrate Cinco de Mayo in Baton Rouge

A few area Mexican and Tex-Mex restaurants will be joining in the Cinco de Mayo revelry this weekend. Lava Cantina (10001 Perkins Rowe b100) will host a Dos de Mayo party Friday featuring the Zac Bro Band at 9 p.m. and a bigger celebration Saturday with music inside and outside starting at 3 p.m. On Sunday, the restaurant hosts a jazz brunch and the Nick Abraham Xperience will perform at 11 a.m. On Monday night, the Mike Brandt Band will perform at 7 p.m.

At Taco Boudreaux, some of the cast members from Animal Planet’s Swamp’d will be on hand, signing autographs and taking pictures Sunday at 2 p.m. and Monday at 3 p.m. The restaurant (2628 S. Sherwood Forest Blvd.) will also have a free spacewalk for children on Monday and drink specials.

Mestizo will host drink specials and giveaways Sunday and Monday. The restaurant (2323 S. Acadian Thruway) will have hours of 11 a.m.-till on both days. On Sunday, there will be a mechanical bull and music and karaoke from DJ Big Sexy. On Monday, DJ Otto will provide the tunes, and there will be a “Pimp You Sombrero” contest.
