Can’t hurry ‘Love’
Based loosely on Jamie Reidy’s tongue-in-cheek memoir Hard Sell: The Evolution of a Viagra Salesman, dramatic comedy Love and Other Drugs starring Jake Gyllenhaal as a hotshot pharmaceutical salesman in the late 1990s who lands the gig of a lifetime selling the instantly popular little blue pill has arrived on DVD this week. Gyllenhaal’s sales rep is a serial ladies man, too, who like George Clooney in last year’s brilliant Up in the Air, is bewildered when he suddenly gets the urge to settle down with one woman—a woman who may or may not be good so for him. Anne Hathaway plays a free wheeling young woman who leaps into a casual, only-physical relationship with Gyllenhaal. Of course their relationship soon takes a more serious turn as her secret is revealed and they discover that love might be the strongest drug of all. Hank Azaria, Judy Greer, Oliver Platt, George Segal and Kathryn Winnick co-star. Rated R.
