Calling ‘Colombiana’

Fans waiting for a sequel to Luc Bessson’s 1994 Natalie Portman hit The Professional have to wait a little while longer, but in the meantime, this week’s new-to-DVD assassin thriller Colombiana—co-written by Besson—may be the next best thing. Like Portman’s Mathilda all grown up, Colombiana star Zoe Saldana plays someone who witnessed the mob murder her parents at a young age. That tragedy turns her into a cold-blooded assassin herself, and put her on a mission to find the men who killed her parents and make them pay. Michael Vartan co-stars. Rated R.
