Calendar: New classes at the Panhandler … Tsunami sushi class … Italian art and food
Get your gumbo on: The Panhandler has added new classes for the months of October and November. You can sign up for everything from their popular gumbo workshop to learning how to spice up your Thanksgiving with exciting new flavors. Full details and class schedule can be found at thepanhandlerla.com. Roll your own: Sushi making is an art, and the sculptors at Tsunami are ready and willing to give you a crash course. The class will include a brief history of sushi, kitchen cleanliness and knife safety, sushi recipes you can make at home, and of course, learning how to roll and slice your own. Saturday, Sept. 26, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. $50 per student. Bella Italia: The Arts Council of Greater Baton Rouge’s Community Gallery presents a reception for their “Passport to Italy” collection Friday. The exhibit features original works by local painters, photographers, and jewelers that evoke the feeling of Italy, and will serve homemade breads and other Italian foods from Nino’s Italian restaurant. 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.
