Gala for good: The Jarvis Green Foundation’s wine tasting gala, which benefits disadvantaged single mothers in low-income areas, comes to Baton Rouge. Patrons will enjoy various flavors from Treasury Wine Estates at different stations placed throughout the venue, Lod Cook Center, while sampling international and Southern fare prepared by caterer Unique Cuisine. Live music and a silent auction will add to the event’s festive air, May 27, beginning at 7 p.m. Tickets are available at jarvisgreen.com. Tour the world by your taste buds: Enjoy a rich evening of entertainment, wine and food from local cooks and restaurants at the Baton Rouge Center for World Affairs’ 12th annual International Cooking Competition & Tasting Fair. If you can cook, enter your dish in the competition—or just attend and taste all the delicious food on offer. Deadline for entry is May 27, and the competition itself takes place June 5 at the Louisiana State Museum. Tickets are $25 in advance, $30 at the door. Visit brcwa.com for more information. Learn at your leisure: Learn to make sushi or cupcakes, or to discern between different kinds of Mediterranean wines, this summer at the LSU Union, with one of their many leisure classes. No matter your culinary tastes, you can find a class that will help you expand your skills and learn some new tricks for cooking and entertaining. Find out more by clicking here.
