Calendar: Deadline approaching to compete in WAFB’s 9 Chefs contest … Herb classes with Sarah Liberta start March 1

Be one of the nine: WAFB Channel 9 is searching for nine of the area’s best chefs for its semiannual televised 9 Chefs cooking competition. The competition is open to all amateur and professional chefs. If you think you’ve got what it takes to compete on television, read the rules and fill out the application before Feb. 21, and get a chance to win some absolutely fabulous prizes. Herbal love: Culinary herbalist Sarah Liberta will present a six-week course on growing and cooking with herbs for LSU’s Osher Lifelong Learning Institute this spring. The Lagniappe Chapter of OLLI will host Liberta’s series “Herbs: For Use and for Delight” at Broadmoor United Methodist Church, Thursdays, March 1-April 5, 1:45-3:45 p.m. The course will explore some of the infinite possibilities of herbs, with a special focus on lemon herbs, including lemon verbena, lemon balm, lemon thyme, lemon basil, and lemon bee balm.
