Burgers off the beaten path
Baton Rouge is a foodie town, and there are plenty of places where you can grab a great, juicy burger with just about any toppings you choose. But what about the lesser-known places, the neighborhood joints that most people pass by? Below are a few picks where you can grab a cheap and delicious burger in Baton Rouge without running into a crowd. Roul Deli: Advertised as a “juicy juicy” burger, this tiny outfit near LSU serves up a delightfully chin-dribbly cheeseburger that’s beloved of many a college student. Although you can only squeeze a handful of people into the establishment, their burgers have the big taste any meat-lover craves. Burgermania: Almost hidden on Sherwood Forest, Burgermania serves up several unusual burgers, with toppings from Caribbean jerk sauce to hot sausage. One of their best offerings is the “Little Lulu,” a mini version of the famous Luther burger—a cheesed-up patty served between two halves of a toasted donut. South of Philly: Known best for the eponymous Philly cheesesteak sandwiches that are the restaurant’s signature, the burgers are nonetheless worthy entrées as well. Sink your teeth into one of their make-your-own burgers, grilled fresh when you order.
