Brunch at Mason’s Grill

Blame your Southern roots when you wake up craving seafood for breakfast. If it’s Sunday morning, Mason’s Grill has you covered with its popular weekend brunch. Tucked away on Old Jefferson Highway, some distance from most Baton Rougeans’ usual commute, Mason’s and its unbelievable Seafood Crepes ($11.95) are well worth the drive. Tender shrimp sautéed with onions, mushrooms and melted Monterey Jack cheese are stuffed into three savory crepes, generously topped with crabmeat and sprinkled with green onions. Order them standard on a bed of Hollandaise sauce, or get the sauce on the side to dip. You can also swim it up a notch with creamy Seafood Au Gratin sauce ($4.95) packed with crawfish, shrimp and crabmeat. Available 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturdays and Sundays, brunch is typically busy from noon on; it must be the lure of the highly customizable cocktail, the Bloody Mason. So be sure to take advantage of the restaurant’s weekends-only call-ahead seating. Enjoy the friendly, family-infused atmosphere and reel in a delicious brunch.—Danielle Mack
