Bourbon Treat
The Pelican House, which recently opened in the Citiplace Shopping Center, has quickly become known for its draft beer selection. With more than 130 beers on tap, it is easy to understand why, but the bar and restaurant has more to offer. Take, for example, their bourbon. This American whiskey is perhaps trendier right now than craft beer, and at Pelican House, they take it seriously. The “house” bourbon is Four Roses Yellow Label ($5, 80 proof), a blend of all 10 combinations of Four Roses using two mash recipes and five yeast strands. This flagship Four Roses brand, all of which is Kentucky bourbon, has elements of apple and pear with the standard oak, cinnamon and vanilla characteristics of a bourbon. The Pelican House also features the Four Roses Small Batch ($9, 90 proof), which is a blend of four bourbon recipes hand selected by the Four Roses Master Distiller Jim Rutledge whose signature has adorned each bottle since 1995. And of course, you can also find the Four Roses Single Barrel ($12, 100 proof), with hints of cherry and plum as well as sweetness similar to maple syrup with a kick of spice. So if you’re at Pelican House and can’t decide on a beer, just remember that you can always turn to the bourbon! thepelicanbar.com
