‘Boots’ on the ground

A famous sidekick stepped into the limelight last fall when Shrek’s suave assassin-turned-friend Puss in Boots starred in his own feature film comedy, now available on DVD. Once again voiced by Antonio Banderas—channeling his hushed Zoro tones more than ever—this stand-alone episode follows the deadly cat’s sword-slinging escapades leading up to his fateful meeting with the grumpy green ogre. Other fairy tale icons get makeovers in this family-friendly comedy, including Humpty Dumpty, Jack and Jill and more. Salma Hayek stars as Puss’ feisty love interest Kitty Softpaws. Zach Galifianakis and Amy Sedaris also lend their voices. Rated PG.
