‘Blind’ spot
LSU fans still dreaming of seeing Nick Saban back in purple and gold might want to go to the movies this Friday when The Blind Side opens and the former Tiger coach and a series of SEC coaches make cameos as their 2004 selves. The film tells the true story of Michael Oher, now in his first season as an offensive tackle for the Baltimore Ravens, who with help from strangers, overcame poverty and a crack-addicted mother to make his grades and thrive in a private Christian school in Memphis. Oher came to prominence as the subject of Michael Lewis’ 2006 book The Blind Side: Evolution of a Game and a New York Times Magazine piece titled “The Ballad of Big Mike.” Sandra Bullock and Tim McGraw star as Leigh Ann and Sean Tuohy, the young couple that took Oher in and eventually adopted him before he went on to play for Ole Miss and get selected in the first round of the NFL draft. Quintin Aaron makes an understated and heartfelt leading debut as Oher in this feel good drama that fans of The Rookie, Glory Road and We Are Marshall will love. Kathy Bates co-stars. Rated PG-13.
