Bingo … hipster style – A look at Red Star’s weekly Hipster Bingo

Since Red Star (222 Laurel St.) reopened last summer downtown, the neighborhood spot has quickly established itself as a go-to choice for new and old residents looking for a regular hangout.

One reason why is its weekly event Hipster Bingo. The festivities kick off every Wednesday around 9 p.m. Bingo cards are $3 for one and $5 for two, and patrons can buy as many as they want to compete in the several bingo games that happen throughout the night.

While some prizes are gift cards from local businesses like Noelie Harmon or Mod Salon, every other game features a prize from the hipster suitcase, which is full of thrifty items.

“You can win anything from a copy of the book High Fidelity to an Ozzy Osbourne record,” Red Star’s event promoter Gabe Daigle says. “It’s your choice from this treasure chest.”

Proceeds from each event help a charity, and that charity changes every couple of months. Over a period of time, bingo raised more than $700 for Sexual Trauma Awareness & Response.

The charity for the latest games of bingo is the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Walk. For more information on the bar, click here.
