Becky Gottsegen’s University Acres living room
We moved to Baton Rouge a year after Katrina and built our dream home. We hired an incredible architect friend from Denver and asked that he design the home with lots of large windows so that we could feel like we were living outside.
These hand-painted silk lumbar pillows were custom-designed by a New Orleans artist, Kathy Schorr, one of the artists I used to represent at my furniture gallery in New Orleans. Kathy also did pillows for other parts of the house.
The art in the niches is by a number of people whose work we have collected over the years, including Mark Chatterly, Arthur Silverman, Luis Colmenares, Steve Martin and Cara Moczygemba. We love all of these pieces!

The sage green chair is the “Dodo” chair by Cassina, an Italian company. I bought it in red, had it reupholstered in periwinkle blue for our home in New Orleans and then had it reupholstered again in sage when we built our house in Baton Rouge. We love it because it has a hidden footrest and also reclines.
With its beautiful inlaid veneer top, this table was designed and fabricated by Liam O’Brien, an Irish craftsman in New Orleans.
These swivel and open up into chaises. They’re fabulous.
