Battle of Baton Rouge commemorative ceremony
Fought on August 5, 1862, the Battle of Baton Rouge was a significant Civil War clash between Union and Confederate forces to gain control of the city and river. On Saturday, the Foundation for a Historical Louisiana will continue its 30-year tradition of hosting a free ceremony to commemorate the battle. The event will be held at the historic Magnolia Cemetery (Map it!) and will feature Dr. Matthew Reonas as a guest speaker. The event begins at 10 a.m. For more information, call 387-2474.
