Baton Rouge Magnet hosts Grammy winners
Terrance Simien, Zachary Richard and the Hot 8 Brass Band will perform Saturday at the Baton Rouge Magnet High School auditorium. This showcase of Louisiana musicians is part of Lt. Gov. Jay Dardenne’s initiative to highlight and bring musicians across the globe as state ambassadors. All three performers were among 11 state acts that were recently announced as finalists for the 56th annual Grammy Awards, which will be presented in late January. This weekend’s concert, dubbed “Only in Louisiana,” kicks off at 7 p.m. Advance tickets are $25 online.
Eric Schmitt. The singer-songwriter celebrates the release of his new album with special guests The Leftovers at Red Dragon Listening Room. 7:30 p.m.
Green Room Show with Bones, Jugs and Harmony. The dance band performs at Mud and Water. 9 p.m.
The Telegraph Salesmen. Experimental gypsy jazz at Mud and Water. 9 p.m.
Lou Reed Tribute Night. Listen to tunes from the late singer at Red Star. No cover; happy hour all night long. Hosted by Philip Mann and Lacey McRight. 8 p.m.
Hip Hop Night. DJ Mike Larry cooks up the sweet tunes at Spanish Moon. Ladies drink free until 10 p.m. No cover charge for guys until 10 p.m. Doors open at 8 p.m.
Lynn Anselmo Songwriter’s Night. A singer-songwriter showcase at Chelsea’s Café. 7 p.m.
MJ and the Redeemers. The blues band hosts a jam night at Phil Brady’s. 7 p.m.
