Bacon Rouge shows off talent at Hogs for the Cause

Baton Rouge’s Hogs for the Cause team Bacon Rouge returned to the Capital City with stomachs full of pork and a couple of high marks. Out of 90 teams, the team placed fourth in the inaugural Camellia Beans category with their dish Rouge Bean and Rice Balls and BBQ Aioli. Approximately 1,500 dishes were sold at the event for charity. The team also placed eighth in the pork ribs category and 27th in pork shoulder. Bacon Rouge’s members are Drew Breitling, Jay Ducote, Travis Ducote, Alex Hamman, Galen Iverstine, Brennan Kluka, Blair Loup, Andrew Rose, Aimee Tortorich and Robert Wise.

Another Baton Rouge team, The Mansura Candidate, was also successful in the competition, placing third overall in the ribs category and 12th in the whole hog category. In 2012, the team placed third in the whole hog category and fifth overall in the “Grand Champion” category. The Mansura Candidate team members include Beau Layfield, Parker Kilgore and Charlie Colvin.
