Asian-Hawaiian fusion comes to Baton Rouge

Hawaiian cuisine has always had a lot in common with Cajun and Creole cuisines. Like our native dishes, Hawaiian food is a fusion of many ingredients brought by those who immigrated to the land, as well as that of the native peoples. Now, The Cove Hawaiian Grill on Jefferson Highway (Map it!) has brought that lively blend of Asian and Polynesian foods to Baton Rouge.

The menu offers a spread of Asian-influenced dishes—fried Japanese katsu, Korean bulgogi and kalbi marinades and Chinese sweet and sour barbecue sauces—served in your choice of a wrap, platter or bowl with your choice of meat. Sides include steamed rice for a more Asian flair, as well as a less well-known staple of Hawaiian cuisine—the macaroni salad, ubiquitous on the islands. You won’t find poi or Spam—another unusual staple of Hawaiian cuisine—on this menu, but you’ll definitely find some tastes you’ve never tried before.
