App-etite: 20-minute meals

British restaurateur, author and celebrity chef Jamie Oliver is known for his stance on simple food. From his Naked Chef series and books to his Food Revolution show on ABC, Jamie wants to help people on both sides of the pond cook and eat better. His iPhone app, 20 Minute Meals, is yet another purveyor of his larger message: Food can be quick, simple, delicious and healthy. With over 50 recipes, integrated shopping lists and detailed photos and instructional videos for the novice chef, this may well be the most comprehensive of the mini-cookbook app genre. The recipes are uncomplicated, requiring nothing in the way of special equipment or ingredients; and being able to see what each step of the recipe should look like greatly improves your chances of culinary success. The recipes focus on fresh ingredients, eschewing canned or pre-processed foods, but are still quick and easy to prepare—a claim many cookbooks can’t candidly make. $7.99 at the iTunes store.
