Oscar winner The Artist introduced a whole new generation to silent cinema in 2011.

“We hope that Movies & Music on the Lawn has done the same while bringing something inventive to it,” says Jason Andreasen, executive director of the Baton Rouge Gallery.

The gallery’s outdoor movie series returns May 25 with The Artist and music by Captain Green. On June 29, David Hinson’s jazz-jam trio Righteous Buddha will soundtrack Buster Keaton’s 1926 comedy The General.

“Often these movies will come with a soundtrack added, but we’ll turn that down and watch in silence,” Hinson says of his creative process. “We come up with these central themes for the characters. It’s not a musical where everything is perfectly orchestrated. It’s more about moods.” batonrougegallery.org
