Abita to start selling beer in cans
The Abita Brewing Company will start selling some of its most popular brews in cans, beginning next year. Abita Amber, Jockamo IPA and Purple Haze will be available in six- and twelve-packs of cans at the same stores where the bottled versions are available. David Blossman, Abita president, says by selling beer in cans instead of glass bottles, it will be easier to take the beverages to more venues and events, such as golf courses, state parks and festivals. Blossman, who says the best way to drink an Abita is still out of a proper glass, says recent changes in canning technology have made it possible to preserve and protect the flavor of canned beer. “For many years people associated craft beer with glass bottles only, but the perception and the technology of the aluminum beverage can has really changed,” he says. The new cans of Abita will be produced at the company’s brewery in Abita Springs.
