Abita announces new beers, lineup changes

Louisiana’s largest brewery, Abita continues to grow, The Times-Picayune reports. The bottling and canning line has been upgraded, and the brewery can turn out 400 bottles a minute. “It’s made to be driven,” David Blossman, Abita’s president, told The Times-Picayune. “The capacity on the bottle line could accommodate a 500-barrel brewery.” Abita is also growing its barrel brewing system, adding another 200-barrel system, meaning the brewery can deliver more beer. In October, Andygator will be sold for the first time in six-packs with standard 12-ounce bottles. Blossman told The Times Pic that in 2014, the brewery will update both its seasonal and Harvest beers made with Louisiana crops. The grapefruit IPA will replace the Satsuma Wheat. Lemon Wheat, a formal seasonal beer, will be made with local citrus and join the Harvest lineup as well. The seasonal Fall Fest will get a new recipe and be renamed Octoberfest. Next summer, Abita will also debut the seasonal Seersucker Summer Pilsner.
