A Viennese evening at the Symphony
The Baton Rouge Symphony Orchestra presents an all-Viennese program Thursday night, beginning with composer Anton Webern. His symphony, composed in 1928, is comprised of two movements and moves swiftly, utilizing musical canon, symmetry and even palindrome. Beethoven’s Symphony No. 8 in F Major comes next, harking back to his earlier symphonies in tribute to his Viennese predecessors, especially Haydn. Maestro Timothy Muffitt and chorus master David Shaler end the evening with Mozart’s Requiem in D Minor. No single piece of classical music has generated as much speculation and rumor as Mozart’s unfinished masterpiece, performed skillfully by the musicians and chorus. 7:30 p.m. Tickets can be purchased at brso.org.
