A night of stars at LASM

Friday night, bring the whole family down to the LASM for a celebration of the International Year of Astronomy! The evening begins at 7 p. m. in the planetarium with a special screening of Exploring the Universe: Probing the Heavens with Galileo. Then, weather permitting, the party will move outside to the levee, where telescopes will be set up near the riverfront landing dock between LASM and the USS Kidd. You can observe the planet Jupiter and its moons, which the great astronomer Galileo discovered on another October evening 400 years ago—plus the moon, star clusters, and more. Regular admission rates apply to the screening, but the star-gazing is free to the public.
