A Greek tragedy about a shady lady, Mamma Mia! hits theaters Friday
ABBA is enjoying a definite resurgence in popularity, so much so even Sen. John McCain admitted to loving the Swedish popsters in a recent interview. Told through the group’s shimmering 1970s hits, longtime Broadway hit Mamma Mia! comes to the screen with the story of a young woman who never knew her father, but invites the three top candidates—that is, her mother’s old flames—to her wedding in Greece to solve the mystery. Mean Girls’ Amanda Seyfried plays the bride-to-be, and Meryl Streep her free-spirited mom. Pierce Brosnan—yes, 007 sings—Colin Firth, and Stellan Skarsgard round out the cast as the potential pops. Rated PG-13.
