A good yarn

Claire Odenweller may be an environmental scientist by day, but the crafty Baton Rougean is solving her followers’ DIY dilemmas by night with her popular blog Dash of Clarity. The 31-year-old even sells her own cozy creations through Etsy.

What is your goal with the Etsy store?

It’s something to do for fun because I enjoy doing it. This is not meant to be my primary occupation.

Where do you get your supplies and materials?

I get yarns from Joann’s, Michael’s—wherever locally I can find them.

Why crochet? And who taught you?

I am now knitting more, actually. I’d like to try a variety of textures. I taught myself from a book and learned a little from my mom.

What else do you do for fun?

I’m a huge DIY fanatic. I am into flow arts, such as hula-hooping and spin contact stuff.

What is your favorite piece?

The button cowl (pictured). It’s not something we see very often, and it is very individual. I have it in nine colors, but some recent custom orders have inspired me to look into even more. dashofclarity.com
