A Faustian fete

Opéra Louisiane kicks off its 2011-2012 mainstage season with Gounod’s masterpiece, Faust, Thursday, September 8 at the Old State Capitol. The temptation of youth is too great for the aging but devious Doctor Faustus as he makes a pact with Mephistopheles himself for a second chance at life. This 90-minute version of the original five-act grand opera will be preceded by a celebratory “fęte” featuring French fare and devilishly divine drinks. The Fęte begins at 6 p.m. and is followed by a performance of Faust at 7:30 p.m. In addition, guests can participate in the Fęte’s Passion for Fashion Contest.
