A different “Roar” – R singer-songwriter Justin Garner tackles Katy Perry’s “Roar” in new video

When Justin Garner heads to the studio, he’s all about getting to work. He says he “goes hard,” and his latest video shows off the young singer’s work ethic.

Over the weekend, Garner recorded a cover of Katy Perry’s new hit single “Roar” in the studio and shot a video for the session.

Garner says the video is one of many to tide fans over until the release of his upcoming album, Warrior, which should be out in the fall.

Fans were asked to vote on which song Garner would perform, and the choices were “Roar” or Bruno Mars’ “Treasure.” Garner says the votes were overwhelmingly in favor of Perry’s song.

“I had no choice but to go in, record it and get someone to video it,” he says. “I wanted to take a unique approach on tackling this cover, though. I wanted to slow it down and make it heartfelt.”

Within an hour and a half, the arrangement was complete. Gone are the percussive elements of the pop single—they have been substituted for strings and pianos.
