40 years of fighting for equality

YWCA’s Baton Rouge chapter has been working to eliminate racism and to empower women for four decades. The chapter has made its presence felt in Baton Rouge by providing education, networking and childcare to women of all races and incomes. In 1980, the chapter’s budget was $87,392; today, it’s $3.75 million. “Our success can be attributed to the strong female leaders, the CEOs and board presidents,” Peggy Cartwright, marketing and communications coordinator, says. The group’s major annual fundraiser “You Win! Community Affair” is scheduled for May 29. Check the YWCA Web site for details. ywca-br.org
