225 Press Play: Thou – Hear an exclusive stream of the band’s upcoming EP ‘The Sacrifice’

225‘s Press Play gives you an exclusive listen to a local band’s latest songs before the release date.

Thou doesn’t make conventional metal music as much as it unleashes a pummeling force.

The ridiculously prolific Baton Rouge band first hit the scene with 2007’s Tyrant. With a relentless DIY work ethic to go along with its sound, Thou quickly became a metal band everyone was talking about.

Whether its native city paid attention or not, Thou was garnering national acclaim, rocking iTunes sales charts and playing sold-out basement, club and festival shows.

This year, the band got more respect for its 2014 full-length Heathen, including a glowing review from the online music publication Pitchfork.

True to form, the band is releasing a 12″ EP, The Sacrifice, as a follow-up. The five-song release features the drone and howl interplay fans have come to expect (lead-off track “New Orleans is a Hole” threatens to give the listener whiplash) as well as a possible peek into the future with songs like “Pill,” which ratchets up the tempo. Nirvana’s “I Hate Myself and I Want to Die” is also taken through the band’s “apocalyptic grinder.”

The Sacrifice will be available for pre-order today via Robotic Empire’s online store.
