225 Press Play: Startisan – Preview a track from the band’s upcoming Decade Array Volume 2
225’s new feature Press Play gives you an exclusive listen to a local band’s latest songs before the release date.
When Startisan formed three years ago, its members had known each other from playing gigs here and there with bands such as Streamline, The Highlines and Common Curtis.
On a two-volume set, Startisan is paying tribute to the last decade of music the members have created separately and together.

“This is an amalgamation of 10 years of effort coming to fruition,” lead singer Mike Hogan says. “We’re paying homage to what we’ve been struggling to create in our lives. We always knew we’d do something that was retrospective and reflective at first, then dig in and see what we could do together.”
The first volume was released in spring 2011 and featured material from the members’ previous bands that Startisan re-recorded. On Decade Array Volume 2, which will be released this Saturday, the band shows listeners where they’re heading musically as a cohesive group.
“We came together because we respected the work we had done with other bands,” Hogan says. “There wasn’t a real discussion of direction. It was more like, ‘I know the things you’ve done. We have similar interests. Let’s see where it goes from there.'”
You can hear “Change” below.
This song is no longer available for streaming. Startisan’s album Decade Array Volume 2 is now available for purchase here.
The band will perform at The Varsity Saturday. Jason Martin will open. Doors open at 8 p.m.; the show starts at 9 p.m. Tickets are $10 and available here.
