‘Daily Report’: New Orleans chef opening spot in White Star Market

New Orleans chef Vu Le will open a spot called Chow Yum Phat in the White Star Market, a gourmet food hall opening next spring in the Square 46 development in Mid City.

The menu will feature a variety of Asian street food specialties, such as ramen noodles, pho bowls and sushi and sashimi options.

Le joins a large ensemble of chefs already announced for White Star Market, including Jay Ducote, the Jolie Pearl teamJesse Romero, Micah Martello, Michael Mangham and Lafayette’s Reve Coffee Roasters.

Reminder: Forum 35’s June Uncorked tomorrow

Forum 35’s next Uncorked food and wine event will be held Thursday, June 30, 6-9 p.m. at Louisiana’s Old State Capitol. It will benefit the Baton Rouge Bridge Academy

Participants will enjoy an evening of fundraising, wine tasting and a unique team wine competition.

Tallulah to launch crafted cocktails and new menu

Tallulah Crafted Food and Wine Bar in the Renaissance Hotel will unveil a new cocktail menu during an event Monday, July 4, at 5 p.m.

Newly appointed Executive Chef Drue Vitter and his team will also unveil an all-new Tallulah menu during an event next Friday, July 8, at 5 p.m.

Tallulah will focus on small plates of French and African influence.


Jay Ducote’s James Beard preview dinner

Jay Ducote is hosting a preview dinner for his LSU tailgate-themed James Beard House dinner in New York at the Louisiana Culinary Institute on Friday, July 8, 7-10 p.m.

The dinner will allow locals to taste the menu firsthand before Ducote serves it at the James Beard House. Proceeds will benefit the James Beard Foundation and the Louisiana Culinary Institute Foundation.

The dinner menu:

• Quail andouille gumbo with Louisiana rice
• Crawfish étouffée-smothered fried catfish with stone-ground grits and mustard greens
• Blackened red snapper with Cajun tasso-corn maque choux and jalapeño relish
• Venison tenderloin with chimichurri and okra three ways
• Granny’s cinnamon pecan rolls

Pei Wei exits the Louisiana market

Pei Wei Asian Diner, a fast-casual Asian-inspired concept in the P.F. Chang’s family of restaurants, is closing all three of its Louisiana restaurants.

After four years in the Louisiana market, the Capital City’s Acadian Village Shopping Center location and the New Orleans location on North Carrollton Avenue both closed. The Metairie location will be closed by the end of this week.
